Director of Manufacturing Operations

Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of manufacturing, production, and test, that ensures on-time delivery of products and services that meet the highest quality standards and established financial goals. Provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership to maximize the growth of employees and optimize the output of manufacturing operations, involving the machining, welding, assembly and test of complex laboratory cryogenic equipment.  Work with a highly customized product mix, demanding technical specifications, challenging schedules and in a dynamic environment producing world class cryogenic laboratory equipment products.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide effective goal setting, coaching, and timely performance feedback to employees. Coach employees with respect to development needs, work with them on a growth plan, and provide routine guidance.

Work with Continuous Improvement personnel and subordinate supervisors to foster a production culture focused on perpetual incremental improvement achieved by the prompt and effective addressing of technical issues and the conformance to quality requirements.

Develop, plan and execute effective, efficient, and flexible current and long-term manufacturing strategies utilizing applicable state-of–the-art manufacturing methodologies and related systems.

Utilizing subordinate supervisors and others, manage the machining, welding, and assembly and test operations to achieve the requirements of the production plan.

Work with Engineering and Continuous Improvement on complex product standardization and commercialization ensuring optimum design for manufacturability and lowest possible cost of production.

Continuously manage labor capacity and cross-training skill level mix to meet current and planned production needs.

Evaluate, recommend, and execute plans for human resources, capital equipment, and departmental budgets to ensure an efficient manufacturing capability that meets production requirements. 

Experience and Education:
A minimum of 10+ years of progressive technical experience within a high-tech, complex product manufacturing environment is required, with at least 5 years of directly related manufacturing leadership experience.  Expertise in advanced manufacturing methodologies is highly desired.  A strong hands-on leader/developer of people with a background in manufacturing engineering and/or design engineering with a career progression to senior manufacturing leadership responsibilities would be ideal. A technical/engineering degree (BS or equivalent) is expected.  An advanced technical and/or management degree (MS/MBA) would be an advantage.

Mechanical Inspector / Machine Shop Support

Summary:
Inspect machined parts and welded assemblies from both internal and external suppliers. Keep accurate records of all inspection results. Provide support to the machine shop by cutting raw stock and tubing as needed.

Required Skills:
  • 5+ years inspecting machined parts in a custom machine shop setting.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills
  • Proficient in the use of all standard measuring tools: micrometers, calipers, height gages
  • Romer Arm CMM experience (PC-DMIS software) is highly desirable.
  • Set-up and operate standard machine shop machine equipment: manual lathes, band saws, and chop saws.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems.

Desired Background:
  • Technical trade school diploma.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Macola ERP System.

Assembly and Test Technician

Janis Research Company is seeking an individual who will be responsible for the hands-on assembly and testing of cryogenic products including open and closed cycle cryostats, and other cryogenic systems. This is NOT a research position as the technician will be working in a manufacturing environment. The Candidate should have knowledge of, and a reasonable amount of experience with, wiring, soldering, mass spectrometer leak detectors, vacuum pumps, low-temperature thermometers, reading and working from mechanical assembly drawings, epoxying, transferring cryogens and trouble-shooting cryogenic systems.

This position requires basic electronics knowledge and some experience working with laboratory cryogenic equipment.

This position requires good manual dexterity and working with small parts and fine wires.

Requires two years of technical education in a mechanical or electrical science field.  BS in mechanical engineering or applied physics a plus.  Low temperature physics knowledge and/or experience would be a plus.   Knowledge and experience with magnet systems and ultra-low temperature products, such as Helium-3 systems and dilution refrigerators will also be a plus.  Willing to train the right candidate.

Senior Cryogenic Laboratory Technician

Ultra Low Temperature Sales/Applications Engineer

Janis Research is seeking an Ultra Low Temperature Sales Engineer with solid experience in using, testing and designing cryogenic equipment and in associated analytical techniques. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 4 years experience with low (4.2 K and 1.5 K) temperature and ultra low (300 mK and 10 mK) temperature systems (either cryogen or cryogen-free versions).  The successful applicant will participate in ongoing product development efforts; will actively interact with the low temperature community to determine low temperature equipment needs and requirements of research physicists; and will communicate design and fabrication instructions to manufacturing personnel. Responsibilities also include on-site customer installations. This position requires a PhD in physics, engineering or materials science and a minimum of 4 years working ultra low temperature products, such as helium-3 and dilution refrigeration. Sales & Shipping Assistant


Summary:
Support sales personnel and marketing supervisor by searching for bids, helping to prepare and submit bids, processing orders, track and follow up on customer support cases.  Support logistics group by handling domestic and international shipments and shipping claims. 

Sales & Shipping Assistant Job Duties:
Handle order and RMA processing
Review purchase orders and letters of credits against quotations, resolve discrepancies
Maintain databases (ERP and CRM) by inputting order and end-user details
Search for bid opportunities, work with sales personnel to prepare and submit responses
Prepare sales presentations by compiling data; developing presentation formats and materials
Support service technician by logging cases, sending follow ups
Assist with a variety of domestic and international shipments including UPS/FedEx to more complex letter of credits, export license applications, and shipping claims
Assist with phone answering
Accomplishes department and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
