Assembly Test Supervisor

Janis Research is seeking a highly motivated individual to manage our complex, fast-paced laboratory operations. Will supervise a staff of seven. Supervision skills required include: hiring, motivating, performance feedback and assessment, corrective action and business discipline. Primarily responsible for managing the work flow through the assembly, test and crating functions and for closely monitoring individual employee performance. A minimum of 5 years of management/leadership experience and 10 years of industrial manufacturing experience, and 3 years experience in a small manufacturing company. Experience with highly technical products, soldering, complex assembly and leak testing preferred. Experience in a high mix, high volume, and fast paced custom, high tech environment. The ability to train others and good communication skills a must. Experience with vacuum a plus. A college degree, preferably in physics or engineering, would be a significant plus.

Senior Cryogenic Laboratory Technician

Janis Research Company is seeking an individual who will be responsible for the hands-on assembly and testing of cryogenic products including open and closed cycle cryostats, and other cryogenic systems. Candidates should have knowledge of, and a reasonable amount of experience with, wiring, mass spectrometer leak detectors, vacuum pumps, low-temperature thermometers, blue-print reading and assembly, soldering, epoxying, transferring cryogens and trouble-shooting cryogenic systems. This position requires basic electronics knowledge and a minimum of five years’ experience working with laboratory cryogenic equipment. This is NOT a research position as the technician will be working in a manufacturing environment. Requires two years of technical education in a mechanical or electrical science field. BS Mechanical Engineering/Physics-Applied or higher degree will be a plus. Knowledge and experience with magnet systems and ultra low temperature products, such as helium-3 and dilution refrigeration systems. Willing to train the right candidate.

Continuous Improvement Manager

Job Title: Continuous Improvement Manager
Department: Operations
Reports To: CEO

SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement Manager reports directly to the CEO. Individual will focus on tracking, monitoring, documenting, and assisting with all of our continuous improvement efforts which include:
• Establishing departmental standard processes and procedures
• Conducting formal LEAN activities most predominantly root cause and corrective actions (RCCA’s)
• Embedding a higher level of quality in all of our activities

Candidate will need to possess strong interpersonal skills; have extensive LEAN and quality experience; and a proven track record of documenting processes and procedures. Candidates should also possess an extensive small company and custom products experience level.
The candidate must be an energetic, self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and should possess strong leadership, collaboration, and communication abilities.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Required Experience

  • Proven team player / team builder
  • Proven problem solver and ability to train and empower operations in problem solving
  • 3 Years Manufacturing / Quality Assurance with experience in as many of the following disciplines as possible: tube cutting, forming, buffing, machining, vacuum tight welding, final assembly and test.
  • 3 years’ experience working in a small manufacturing company < 200 employees
  • 5 years’ experience in a Continuous Improvement / Quality Assurance / Manufacturing Engineering role in a high mix / low volume fast paced custom and high-tech environment. 
  • A solid understanding of Quality Assurance fundamentals: Including but not limited to: statistical techniques, control charts, sampling plans, quality costs, analysis of variance, metrology skills and ability to train others, ability to gather and report on quality system metrics, and manufacturing trends. Quality management system deployment, in process and final inspection methods and metrics, root cause, corrective action, preventive action, failure analysis, experience in strengthening supplier quality systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven track record in planning and executing projects and in implementing LEAN Manufacturing / Six Sigma practices
  • ERP/MRP systems
  • Experience working in a PhD influenced environment that drives R&D and product development of cutting edge world class technical solutions through the product life cycle

Education

Senior Mechanical CAD Designer

Responsibilities:
Prepare complex layouts, parts, assemblies and detail drawings for custom cryogenic products and R&D builds. Process and transform preliminary technical packages into working documents for manufacturing release. Review completed technical packages for accuracy.

Required Skills:

  • Associates Degree or Technical Trade School graduate in Cad-based studies
  • Eight years+ work experience.
  • Proficient in using recent versions of SolidWorks and AutoCAD,
  • Ability to provide high throughput of modeling and detailing of technical packages.
  • Skilled in good drafting practices and techniques outlined in ANSI Standards and publications such as the Global DRM.
  • Solid understanding of engineering practices such as, form fit & function, rules of interchangeability, tolerance stack up analysis
  • Very good understanding of managing SolidWorks files, PDMWorks, BOM structures, documentation control and configuration management.
  • Working knowledge of entering BOM’s into an MRP system.
  • Thorough understanding of:
    • Vacuum technology
    • Fabrication techniques
    • Welding techniques
    • Machining techniques
    • Materials

Mechanical Inspector / Machine Shop Support

Responsibilities:

Inspect machined parts and welded assemblies from both internal and external suppliers. Keep accurate records of all inspection results. Provide support to the machine shop by cutting raw stock and tubing as needed.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years inspecting machined parts in a custom machine shop setting.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills
  • Proficient in the use of all standard measuring tools.
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Height Gage's
  • Romer Arm CMM experience (PC-DMIS software) is highly desirable.
  • Set-up and operate standard machine shop machine equipment.
    • Manual Lathes, band saws, and chop saws.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems.

Cryogenics Physicist / Applications Engineer

Janis Research Company has an immediate opening for a Cryogenic Physicist/Applications Engineer.   The successful candidate will be responsible for determining customer requirements and communicating this information to manufacturing, often tailoring standard Janis products to meet the unique needs of the scientist.  This is an in-house sales position requiring a working knowledge of cryogenic laboratory equipment and associated analytical techniques and an MSc or PhD in physics, engineering or materials science.  The ideal candidate should have some experience in the use and design of ultra-low temperature cryogenic equipment (dilution refrigerators and He-3 cryostats), along with high field superconducting magnets. Experience with vibration isolated cryogen free superconducting magnet systems and variable temperature cryostats is highly desirable.
