Material Handler and Inventory Specialist


The primary responsibilities of this position are to coordinate the receipt of materials to and from outside suppliers, assemble parts kits for manufacturing use and be responsible for cycle counting and inventory accuracy. All information related to inventory movement will need to be transacted and a strong understanding of MRP systems is required to effectively perform the job. The timeliness and accuracy of these transactions is crucial to the flow of materials throughout the company and will contribute to the smooth operation of both manufacturing and non-manufacturing objectives.

Material Receipt
  • Compare information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of information
  • Unpack and verify that delivered product matches product on purchase order and transact all items received in MRP system
  • Receive and inspect incoming material for damage or defects, record discrepancies and notify supervisor or other personnel as required
  • Deliver items to requisitioning departments and obtain authorized signatures if required
  • Maintain receiving documentation for all material movement

Value-added Vendor Coordination
  • Determine when materials should be sent to value-added vendors based on established criteria 
  • Contact value-added suppliers to coordinate logistics of materials being sent to suppliers and their return after processing
  • Document all value-added work to be performed and provide documentation to suppliers
  • Receive and inspect incoming material for surface finish, damage or defects, record discrepancies or damage and notify supervisor or other personnel as required
  • Assist with cost allocation between jobs as required

Manufacturing Kitting
  • Assemble kits of material required for manufacturing use by department utilizing bills of materials provided
  • Identify any parts shortages and communicate information to internal customers

Cycle counting
  • Perform regular cycle counts and report on variances
  • Troubleshoot discrepancies and help to determine process problems
  • Coordinate annual physical inventory activities related to on-hand balances

General
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement program by identifying opportunities for improvement, participating in root cause and corrective action efforts and in the 5S program 
  • Follow established company and departmental policies, procedures and objectives and adhere to safety standards
  • Operate mechanical equipment - pallet jack, forklift and/or hoisting equipment - in loading and unloading received material
  • Lock warehouse and set alarms as required
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Assembly and Test Technician

Janis Research Company is seeking an individual who will be responsible for the hands-on assembly and testing of cryogenic products including open and closed cycle cryostats, and other cryogenic systems. This is NOT a research position as the technician will be working in a manufacturing environment. The Candidate should have knowledge of, and a reasonable amount of experience with, wiring, soldering, mass spectrometer leak detectors, vacuum pumps, low-temperature thermometers, reading and working from mechanical assembly drawings, epoxying, transferring cryogens and trouble-shooting cryogenic systems.

This position requires basic electronics knowledge and some experience working with laboratory cryogenic equipment.

This position requires good manual dexterity and working with small parts and fine wires.

Requires two years of technical education in a mechanical or electrical science field.  BS in mechanical engineering or applied physics a plus.  Low temperature physics knowledge and/or experience would be a plus.   Knowledge and experience with magnet systems and ultra-low temperature products, such as Helium-3 systems and dilution refrigerators will also be a plus.  Willing to train the right candidate.
