HE-3-SVSD Insert - Standard Sample Loading, Sample in Vacuum for Storage Dewar
Overview
The model HE-3-SVSD insert is designed to fit a helium-4 storage dewar.
Standard Configuration
The model HE-3-SVSD insert is designed to fit a helium-4 storage dewar with a 2.0" - 3.0" neck diameter. A special brass taper seal is employed at the IVC in order to maximize the sample space. The sample is attached at the bottom of the He-3 pot inside the IVC can for cooling. The system design minimizes the intrinsic heat leak to the He-3 pot and optimizes system performance. It also makes use of all the liquid helium available in the storage dewar with built-in "sippers" that reach the bottom of the dewar.

HE-3-SVSD Mechanical Drawing
With Janis' superior design, the He-3 insert can be operated with the 1 K pot pump turned off after it reached the base temperature. In this case the system will be extremely quiet, which is highly desirable for many applications. This unique feature also reduces the liquid helium consumption and makes the operation more cost effective.
This He-3 insert includes the following components:
- Sliding seal
- Charcoal sorption pump with heater and thermometer
- 1 K pot with thermometer
- He-3 pot with heater and thermometer
- Permanently stored He-3 gas
- IVC can
- Operation test
