• Ladish to NW Flange Adaptor

• Ladish to Conflat Adaptor

  The image shows a conflat flange/ladish flange adaptor that allows an ST-100 to be installed on a UHV chamber with a 2.75" conflat flange.  Please note that while this is the easiest way to put an ST-100 onto a UHV chamber, the ST-100 will not be UHV compatible.

   

   

• VPF to FHT-ST Liquid Helium Transfer Line Adaptor

  The image shows a special adaptor that allows a VPF Liquid Nitrogen cryostat to be used with a mdoel FHT-ST liquid helium transfer line. 

  The VPF is normally a liquid nitrogen only cryostat. This special adaptor allows customers to run their existing VPF with liquid helium by connecting a standard inventory FHT-ST line to the fill port of the VPF cryostat. The base temperature is then extended to ~10 K. Purchasing an adaptor and a standard FHT-ST can be more cost effective than purchasing a complete ST-100 cryostat.

• 8, 10 or 19-pin Electrical Feedthroughs

  

  Click on the photos to see electrical feedthroughs. The photo on the far left shows an electrical feedthrough mounted on a square flange, and an air-side mating connector. The mating connector is shown assembled, as well as disassembled from the strain relief backshell for soldering of cable to connect your cryostat to external equipment.  Contact Janis Research if you are interested in us making the cable.

• 32-pin Electrical Feedthroughs

  

  The photo shows a 32-pin electrical feedthrough mounted on a square flange, and an air-side mating connector, shown assembled.  This is the largest multipin feedthrough that will fit on most standard Janis instrumentation skirts.

   

   

   

• BNC Electrical Feedthroughs

  

  Used for connecting coaxial cable inside Janis cryostat.  Available on Aluminum (electrically conductive) flange or Nylon/G-10 (electrically isolating) flange.  Available in double-sided (jack-to-jack) connection with female BNC jacks on both sides.  Available with female BNC jack on outside and solder connection on inside.  Use for low frequency measurements from DC to below 3GHz with proper cables and connections.

• SMA Electrical Feedthroughs

  

  Used for connecting coaxial cable inside Janis cryostat.  Available on Aluminum (electrically conductive) flange or Nylon/G-10 (electrically isolating) flange.  Available in double-sided (jack-to-jack) connection with female BNC jacks on both sides.  Available with female BNC jack on outside and solder connection on inside.  Use for low and high frequency measurements from DC to 18 GHz with proper cables and connections.

• Triax Electrical Feedthroughs

  

  Janis uses Trompeter BJ78HS female jack-to-jack hermetic feedthroughs.  Available on Aluminum (electrically conductive) flange or Nylon/G-10 (electrically isolating) flange.  Used for guarded measurements.

• Thermocouple Feedthroughs

  

  Available in single and double thermocouple feedthroughs.  Designed to introduce a thermocouple with a 0.020” or 0.063” diameter sheath into a Janis cryostat.  Includes Aluminum support bracket to protect thermocouple from damage.

• Window Fiber Feedthroughs

  

  Designed for introducing an optical fiber or gas line into the sample area through a window port.  This feedthrough is an o-ring compression seal and it can form a vacuum-tight connection around most standard tubing sizes 1/16” diameter or larger.

• Apiezon N

  Apiezon N low vapor pressure vacuum and thermal anchoring grease (25 g).  Please visit the Apiezon web site for specifications.

   

   

• Krytox

  

  Krytox low vapor pressure thermal anchoring grease (2 oz tube).  Visit the DuPont web site for more information on Krytox low vapor pressure high-vacuum grease.

• Celvacene

Sample Holders

• Standard (resistivity, optical, blank)

  

  Three standard sample holder styles are stocked at Janis for quick delivery, as shown below. In addition, custom designed holders can be fabricated to match almost any special requirements, including LCC and DIP packages (see list below).

  

• Diamond Anvil Cell (DAC)

  The image to the left shows a diamond anvil cell (DAC) sample holder designed for integration with a Janis model PTSHI-4-5 pulse tube cooled 4 K closed cycle refrigerator system. The general design can be used on any system (sample in vapor and sample in vacuum) with sufficiently large sample area. The sample holder shown here was designed to fit an easyLab OmniDAC membrane-style diamond anvil cell.

   

• Dual Inline Pin (DIP) Socket

  Special dual inline pin (DIP) socket sample holders are shown to the left. The photo on the far left shows the DIP socket sample holder with a customer-supplied chip socket installed. DIP socket sample holders are usually used in sample-in-vapor systems, but the sample holder shown was built for installation on a 500K ST-100 continuous flow cryostat. It can also be used in a VPF-100 liquid nitrogen pourfill cryostat. Both the ST-100 and VPF-100 have their samples in vacuum.

  The photo on the left shows a special DIP socket sample holder with bolted pin sockets that was used on a model ST-500 microscopy cryostat (sample in vacuum). This design can also be used on a model CCS-350T compact non-optical closed-cycle refrigerator.

  The photo shows a special sample positioner with a Dual Inline Pin (DIP) socket sample holder and some coaxial cables installed.

• Fixed Probe

  

  Janis Research Company is now offering sample holders with up to four fixed-position tungsten probes installed for the electrical measurement of samples without the need for permanent contacts. This design is suitable for measurements in temperatures as high as 800 K, and may be ordered wired to the feedthrough type of your choice, including multi-pin, BNC or SMA feedthroughs. Originally designed for DLTS applications, the sample holder is suitable for any kind of measurement where permanent electrical contacts are undesirable.

  The photograph to the left shows a sample holder set up for four-point measurements. A non-electrically conductive mounting surface is provided, and the probes have a limited range of movement for fine-scale positioning when the sample is warm.

  This sample holder may be used with any of our standard laboratory cryogenics products, in particular the VPF-800, ST-100 and CCS-450.

• Leadless Chip Carrier (LCC)

  Special holders for LCC chips are available for use in most Janis cryostats. Contact Janis for details.

   

   

   

• Cuvette

  

  The photo on the far left shows a cuvette sample holder for installation on an optical VNF-100. It is compatible with all 12.5mm wide x 12.5mm deep cuvettes such as the Starna models 1-G-10, 1.7-G-10, 1-SOG-10, 1-Q-10, and 1-I-10.

   

  The photo to the near left shows a special cuvette sample holder. No tools or disassembly are required to remove or install this cuvette. The user just pushes the spring-loaded G-10 plunger upwards, places the cuvette in the bottom flange, and the plunger will hold it in place when it is released. 

   

   

• Special Compact Three-Position

  

  The images show a quite standard three-position sample holder (left) and a special compact three-position sample holder (right). Such sample holders are typically used in conjunction with a precision sample positioner in an FTIR system.

Sample Positioners

• Double Rotating

  

  Janis is now offering special sample positioners with the ability to rotate the sample about the optical axis of the cryostat.

  Janis sample positioners have long been able to rotate around the cryostat axis, and now with the addition of a gear mechanism close to the sample, samples may be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the cryostat axis. Different configurations are available, depending on the individual requirements of the user. The photograph to the left shows a sample holder with the flat mounting surface perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Sample holders with the flat mounting surface parallel to the axis of rotation are also available.

  The standard double-rotating sample mechanism fits inside a 1.5" diameter sample tube. Optional non-magnetic bearings are also available, allowing sample rotation inside a magnet system with a 1.75" diameter sample tube.

  These special sample positioners are available with any system with the sample in flowing vapor or exchange gas. They may also be ordered for use with existing cryostats.

• Precision Rotator for He-4 & He-3 Cryostats

  For applications that require rotation of the plane of the sample relative to a vertical magnetic field, Janis Research also offers two options. The first one offers continuous rotation of the plane of the sample, and the second one offers a precision rotation, typically up to 100 degrees. The precision rotator is also offered for inserts where the sample is located in vacuum. These sample rotators can be supplied for both non-optical as well as optical systems.

• Precision Sample Positioner with a Special Compact 3-position Sample Holder

• Special Sample Positioner with DIP Socket Sample Holder

  The photo shows a special sample positioner with a Dual Inline Pin (DIP) socket sample holder and some coaxial cables installed.

• Bottom Window

  The image displayed is of an inventory ST-100 with a fifth, bottom window. This option is available on most optical, sample in vacuum systems, including models ST-100, VPF-100, CCS-150, CCS-100/202, CCS-100/204.

• Mylar Window

  

  Most commonly used on systems for Mössbauer (Gamma Ray) spectroscopy and x-ray spectroscopy. Available only in thin film / sheet. Aluminized Mylar is available for use on radiation shield window ports.

• PE or KRS-5 Outer Windows

  

  Commonly used in IR spectroscopy on systems with rotatable vacuum shrouds. KRS-5 covers transmission in the near-to-mid IR range, while Polyethylene (PE) is used for transmission in the far-IR range.
