From particle physics exploration at the CERN LHC accelerator to experiments in cold fusion at national labs, our sensors, instruments, and systems are used to pursue science that has the potential to change lives.
Muon g-2 at Fermilab
Just one of many large-scale physics experiments worldwide using Lake Shore thermometry technology. Diode sensors are used for monitoring cryogenic temperatures of the 52-foot-wide superconducting particle storage ring, with 240 Series input modules converting analog temperature signals to digital for direct transmittal to the facility’s PLC.
Quality control is key to a manufacturer’s customer satisfaction and profits. Lake Shore’s fast, sensitive, calibrated instruments and sensors improve the accuracy of a number of QC measurements. Our portable and fixed configurations allow in-line product testing, plus our knowledgeable technical staff assist with the integration of our products into existing process and help users understand their test results.
Arnold, a leader in permanent magnets and assemblies, uses Lake Shore fluxmeters and Helmholtz coils to ensure consistency in manufacturing, and our gaussmeters and Hall probes (single axis and 3-axis) to test finished assemblies for products as critical as undersea oil valves and high-performance motors.
Many of our sensors are designed to survive radiation and excessive vibration during a space launch and will operate continuously for years. Lake Shore has more than 20 years of experience in supporting mission-critical applications. Our highly reliable, flight-qualified sensors have provided precise measurement for satellite onboard systems as well as ground testing.
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope uses hundreds of Lake Shore’s flight-quality sensors. Other NASA programs and national labs rely on the Lake Shore family of sensors and instruments for their crucial programs.
